Gladys Magazine
Lissa Mel is an Israeli artist, entrepreneur, and gallerist.
Her work has been shown at Miami's Art Basel and New York's Artexpo, and she is the founder of The Messengers Art Gallery, which represents a roster of international artists.
Born in Uzbekistan and raised in Tel Aviv, Mel grew up with her mother's encouragement close at hand. In high school she threw herself into physics, chemistry, and biology-but the pull toward painting, sculpture, and cinema turned out to be stronger.
Her work operates at the molecular level. She uses abstraction to capture matter in motion, drawing on the vibrational nature of the physical world. The human body, in her view, is a vessel-performing the ongoing dance between feminine and masculine energy.
Getting there wasn't simple. Leaving a stable business career to move to Los Angeles and commit fully to art was a gamble. She'll tell you it was the right one.
